A brief history:
For more than 100 years prior to the Uniting Church coming into being, both the Methodist and Presbyterian churches in High St. Frankston were blessed with choirs which assisted in the worship of God in Frankston.
When the Uniting Church was founded in June 1977, The two churches (now known as Wesley and St. Andrews) remained in separate parishes as church attendances at that time were good. Around 1995, the two parishes were combined creating one 'High St. Uniting Church'.
Prior to joining congregations, the two choirs had often combined for special occasions and special musical presentations under the oversight of Martin Hallett. Martin continued to lead the 'High St.' choir until Christmas 1997. In March of 1998, Max Crisp took over the reins which gives him some control over the choir, but not always. (we have fun at practice)
Some of the special presentations given by the choir are related to the church year, at Easter Stainer's "Crucifixion", Maunder's "Olivet to Calvary" and Peterson's "Glory of Easter". For Christmas, "Majesty and Glory of Christmas" arr. Tom Fettke, Peterson's "Night of Miracles" and "Born a King", and a selection of carols from around the world.
The choir is like a small community within the larger church community. The members care for one another, look out for those with special needs, and encourage each other to sing well.
The present:
Attendance at choir practices averages 18-20 people, mainly ladies, and we would like to invite anyone who enjoys singing in harmony (particularly men, especially TENORS) to come along on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 8:45pm and join in the fun, and then make a valuable contribution to worship on Sunday morning at 9:00am
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed.
